Mortal Kombat Movie Sequel On The Way With Simon McQuoid Back To Direct

The last Mortal Kombat film we got wasn’t perhaps altogether everything fans wanted, but it was enough that the film ended up overachieving, prompting New Line Cinema to come back for round two.

Website Deadline reports that the production company is moving ahead with a sequel, and that Simon McQuoid will be back in the director’s chair.

The first film released last April, both in theatres and on streaming services. It opened to a top spot in the box office, as theatres at the time were just starting to come back to life across the world.

This upcoming sequel already has some fans vying for their favourite celebrities to play particular roles, like fans of WWE’s The Miz wanting him to be cast as Johnny Cage, an infamous Mortal Kombat character who was absent from the first film.

That call from fans even prompted The Miz to start preparing for the role as if he was going to get it, saying “I’ve been working on my splits, I’ve been working on my kicks.”

No official casting details have been released as of yet.
