The FTC Will Reportedly File An Injunction To Block Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard King Acquisition

A new report from CNBC claims that the FTC is getting set to file an injunction in an attempt to block Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King.

This would be the latest in the FTC’s attempts to block the merger in the US before the deal’s July 18 deadline, as it is already suing Microsoft over the deal.

The FTC isn’t alone in trying to block the merger, as the UK’s CMA has also moved to block the deal, and Microsoft has since moved to appeal the decision.

As far as major regions go, only the EU has accepted the deal, though it does so with its own conditions that Microsoft must abide by.

With both the CMA’s appeal process and the FTC’s lawsuit, we won’t see an end to this acquisition anytime soon, but as we inch closer to July 18, everything does feel to be coming to a head now with this report.

The injunction though is only a temporary block method, the FTC would then have to be successful in its lawsuit, and hope a vote across the whole commission goes its way, and even then Microsoft could still appeal.

So whatever happens between now and July 18 will begin a new chapter in this long-winding story.
