Hideo Kojima has always been an innovator in the games industry with his work over the years, however now he’s claiming that his next project will go further than innovating within games, by not being a game at all, instead it’ll be “like a new medium.”
Talking to The Guardian, Kojima said on his upcoming work that “it’s almost like a new medium. If this succeeds, it’ll turn things around – not just in the games industry, but in the movie industry as well.”
Kojima has seemingly always been trying to find that sweet spot between cinema and games, even sometimes to a fault when considering titles like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots.
While it’s still a great game, many criticized it for having extremely long cutscenes that cut up the pacing of gameplay.
Whatever this project is, it’ll be interesting to see what Kojima is trying to do.
“You can have successful experiments, but there’s a long distance between an experiment and a place where it’s something that becomes a part of everyday usage.”
